statement

My work takes inspiration from the natural sciences, playing with those semiotic cues by which we recognize matter as organic or inorganic, biological or geological. I am drawn to the lifeform, and the structural echoes that occur at different levels of perception. My interest in the theory of emergence leads me to digital works that begin from simplistic origins and build in complexity, through repetition and compounded processes. Visually, I arrive at ambiguous structures which nevertheless recall familiar phenomena.

I find nature beautiful in its autonomy and appreciate non-human agency, and often locate the seeds of my artwork in the chance or random. From there, I engage in a process of editing, as I augment the emerging aesthetics to hone them toward a sense of continuity and balance.
