For this introductory-level assignment, students were prompted to depict impossible or improbable scenes, taking into consideration how meaning is impacted when images are placed into new contexts. They were instructed on the use of Photoshop for isolating elements from digital images, employing non-destructive methods when possible. Emphasis was balanced between conceptual creativity and learning the software techniques, and how lighting and color temperature may be manipulated to bring elements into the same visual space. For this first assignment, students could draw upon images from any source. However, in conjunction, we discussed copyright and fair use practices in professional art.
